but I still like the majority of the 80's glam stuff like Motley Crue, Poison, etc. even if all you supposed glam fans don't.

So shoot me!

An actual music discussion...horrors...

My take is that too many people actually believed all the bullshit hype about Nirvana killing off glam". As far as I'm concerned, "glam" in the 1980s died circa 1983, with a few ripples in 84, 85, and 86. Motley had a great image in the beginning, but fucked it up trying to imitate Wrathchild starting in the late part of 1992. They just catered to those ignorant critics who kept lying that all 1980s "glam" was just influenced by KISS and imitating them as well.

Also, the late 1980s "hairband" shit was not glam, it was nothing but pretty Metallica, which was the standard the critics used to judge everything by.

Regarding newer bands, when people stop allowing "glam" to be pushed into a solely 1980s nostalgia, then things will be better.

Remember, the media embraced Grunge not so much as a musical wave, but as a way to ignore glam completely.

An actuall music topic...fancy that...

...and as for ridiculing the old bands, they need to quit acting so fucking stupid, thinking they are at The Whiskey with beautiful young groupies waiting to swive their fucking eyes out. They also need to, if they go on tour, to give some of the younger bands a break here and there. Personally, I think Syl Mizrahi(Sylvain) was on the mark having bands such as JJ's old band open for him.

If "glam" is going to be anything other than a camp joke, people need to, for one, attack the whole idea of "grunge" as even being more than a media-induced spasm being forced on people by the likes of MTV.

The old bands should indeed still be playing The Whiskey, because it is a little dive, not some huge arena. I agree that they shouldn't be acting like asses, and should be grateful that fans still come out and see them. I still praise Stevie Rachelle for showing this dignified manner in Manchester a couple of years ago, when Tuff pulled about 50 people. Soil were in the room next door and packed all the kids in. Stevie was still gracious to his fans.

I still consider the 'late 80s hairband shit' to have been glamorous, but that's just me. The market was over-saturated, and there was a fair amount of mediocre acts.

Old bands that are continuing to tour in the UK usually have local talent supporting, so by getting out to the clubs I still get to see a fair share of promising new bands (at least UK ones).

I don't think attacking other styles of music will stop glam being a 'camp joke'. I do like some nu-metal and pop-punk stuff as well. I just think we should be more positive about the stuff that keeps us into glam, rather than beating down on the stuff we don't like.

I'll try to stop taking the piss out of the Darkness, but I just can't take the sparkly leotards seriously.

I still love Poison, and all other 80's bands.
AS for Motley....I can't say I liked them too much..I do own some cds from them though...but I can only hear like 2 tunes before Vinces Voice gets on my nerves. Hince the way he sings in SHOUT AT THE DEVIL...sounds like a midget on helium.
But hey if ya like 'em...cool man...aint' nothing wrong with that. Look at me I love Roxx Gang...people hate them here...but eh...I just don't pay attention.

What the hell are you talking about??? Everybody on this blasted site is stuck in that damn rut, and that is my problem with this joint. Nobody wants to hear new stuff, unless it is done by the old people, or done in the style of the old stuff. I think I am pretty much going to go along with Gav on this one and give up trying to find new stuff to give to folk here (I'll just PM ya Raggz). Yeah, the old stuff is cool, but how many times can ya spin the old stuff before desiring to hear something new? Not attacking you Stacey, but what you said is quite opposite of what this site has become all about. I never see anybody wanting to discuss new stuff. Shame really, as there is some great new stuff out there. Sure, it may not be the brilliance and timeless qualities of classic PBF (heh, you decide how much sarcasm I use in that statement), but it is still strong stuff that ROCKS.

I'm not talking about the lack of response to threads on new bands. I'm talking about ridiculing the old bands. That's why glam gets treated as a joke.

I just don't see much appreciation around these days. And a lot of the time I can't be bothered to log in to reply to threads. I guess I'm just as much as fault as the next guy.

Ya let something said bother what ya listen to.
Ya gotta listen to what ya feel ya want to.
As I said....I listen to stuff that others would joke or make fun of, bit hey if it's what I like to listen to...then I sure in hell ain't gonna give a rats ass what others think.
What I'm saying is what ya like ya like...no opinion or band being made fun of...should make someone disappointed. As for Glam being made fun of...I dont' think it's the glam genre...I think what makes a band made fun of is there ridiculous antics...as in Poison with the whole Poison girls bit and you can't be with that girl cuz it's Bobbys...see now that alone...is making them a joke...now is it peoples faults for making Poison a joke?...no...it's Poison themselves for being they way they are.
